Paddle board tours on Ahja river, Taevaskoja
Paddleboarding is suitable for both solo hikers as well as larger groups. From Koorvere to Kiidjärve, the Ahja river is more frothy, and there are some rapids that add excitement to the SUP hiker's path.
Between Kiidjärve and Taevaskoja there is a small primal river section, after leaving it behind, you will have to cross the almost 5 km long snake-shaped Saesaare dam.
After the dam, the river is rockier and faster. You can put your maneuvering skills to the test near the Suur Taevaskoda and Väike Taevaskoda. Beautiful sandstone outcrops greet you on both sides of the banks for the entire distance starting at Koorvere in Ahja river valley.

Paddle Board - What Is It?
A paddle board or SUP is a means of practicing paddle surfing. SUP comes from the English name Stand Up Paddleboard. On a paddleboard, a hiker stands (sits or knees) and uses a paddle to move forward. Still, paddleboarding is easy to learn.
Our hiking instructor thoroughly demonstrates how to skillfully handle a paddle board. Rapids, rocks and other minor obstacles in the river add complexity to paddleboarding.
On a paddle board, you can do sports, enjoy nature, sunbathe, do balance and yoga exercises. You can ride a paddle board on rivers, lakes, bog lakes.
The Valley of the Ahja River And the Stunning Outcrops
The primeval valley of the Ahja River is known for its unique nature. Impressive sandstone outcrops rise here. There are more than 40 outcrops in the more than 20 km long Ahja river primeval landscape protection area. All of them can be seen while hiking along the river. And most of them then using hiking trails.
The river has a few smaller rapids that give water hikers an adrenaline rush. There are several hiking trails that take you through the forests, hillsides and river banks, offering the opportunity to spot animals - beavers, otters. Several species of birds nest here. A hiker can meet Estonia's most colorful bird - the kingfisher.
